USMTS season opener weekend schedule adjusted

By USMTS PR (Petty, TX) -- The Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt embarks on its biggest, boldest schedule yet this weekend at the Rocket Raceway Park in Petty, Texas, for the 13th Annual Summit Spring Nationals.

"With fans and racers alike—as well as officials from the USMTS and Rocket Raceway Park—keeping one eye on their weather apps, we just want to let everybody know our plan of attack for this weekend's monster show," said USMTS President Todd Staley. "In 25 years of doing this, I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many times the weather forecast has been totally wrong. but they've been right sometimes too."

With a dismal forecast for Thursday and into Friday, racetrack and series officials have made begrudgingly gone to Plan B.

Thursday's event is canceled while Friday's event for all classes will now move to Sunday afternoon along with the previously announced payouts for Friday. We will race Saturday's big finale as planned. Summit USMTS Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA Limited Mods, USRA Factory Stocks and Eco-Mods are on tap both days.

Officials have also pulled the plug on Wednesday's practice session. time permitting, there may be a morning/early afternoon practice on Saturday.

For complete information including times, ticket prices, registration details and payouts, check out the Fast Facts on USMTS.com or down below at the end of this announcement.

The Rocket Raceway Park holds 3,400 spectators and its elevated grandstands offer superb viewing from any seat. The venue can be found in Lamar County—about 15 minutes west of Paris and 25 minutes east of Bonham. The physical location is 16369 US Hwy 82, Petty, TX 75470.

Last year's event saw Dustin Sorensen take the opening night win en route to the USMTS National Championship while eventual Summit USRA Modified National Champion Tyler Davis notched his career-first series win on Saturday night. A stout field of 76 tough-as-nails USMTS Modifieds packed the pits at the 2022 contest.

Jason Hughes was the inaugural Summit USMTS Spring Nationals champion. Other past champions of this race are Tyler Davis (2022), Dereck Ramirez (2020), Hunter Marriott (2019), Johnny Scott (2018 and 2012), Chris Brown (2017), Zack VanderBeek (2016), Ryan Gustin (2015 and 2013), Stormy Scott (2012) and John O Whittington (2011).

The cost of a USMTS national license is $500 per year and applies to all USMTS events. Alternatively, a one-time multi-race license good for two to four consecutive events in a single weekend may be purchased for $100. A one-night license is $50. A driver must possess a USMTS license prior to the start of an event to be eligible for points funds, provisional starting spots and the licensed driver pay scale for that event.

The Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt currently features 46 nights of racing at America's premier dirt track racing venues. Just the winners of those events are set to earn more than $300,000 with nearly $2 million in purses and prize money earmarked for the 2023 campaign.
