Dereck Ramirez repeats in Show-Me Shootout at Lucas Oil Speedway

The winning performance rewarded him with a handsome $10,000 check.

Not only did he become the first repeat winner in the event, but also became the first three-time United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) victor at the western Missouri oval in his Ramirez Motorsports No. 4r Koda Services/ Boom-Test Well Service/ Raw Truck Wash/ Hughes Racing Chassis/ Cornett Racing Engine Modified.

“I love this place. It’s probably the greatest facility we go to,” Ramirez said in Victory Lane on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway. “Everybody that works here and all the fans that come out and support us... plus I have to thank these guys here. We wrecked the car at Ogilvie (Minnesota). They worked their butts off at the shop to put this (car) together.

“It's been a dream to drive. I’m glad we made the decision to give the new car a try. It’s good.”

Dereck Ramirez was one of 58 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) entries on hand at 81 Speedway (Kansas City, Kan.) on Thursday to kick off the tripleheader weekend with the 10th annual Sunflower Showdown. Scoring a second-place finish in his heat behind Tanner Mullens, Ramirez locked into the 10th-starting position for the opening night feature. Breaking into the Top-10, Dereck passed six cars in the 40-lapper to finish fourth. He followed Cole Traugott, Rodney Sanders, and Tanner Mullens across the line with Lucas Schott rounding out the Top 5.

For the Summer Fling on Friday afternoon at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kan.), Dereck advanced two spots in his heat race to finish second. Rolling off fourth for the night’s finale, Ramirez closed in on race-long pacesetter Jake O’Neil in the final 10 circuits but was unable to pass the eventual winner. Tanner Mullens, Jason Hughes, and Dustin Sorensen completed the Top-5 finishers.

The following night at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.), Ramirez’s runner-up finish in his heat race placed him on the pole for the main event. Keeping a charging Dustin Sorensen at bay, Dereck soared to his second-straight Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout triumph and third win of the season. He took the checkers ahead of Sorensen, Rodney Sanders, Jake O’Neil, and Carlos Ahumada Jr. to claim $10,000.

On the heels of his weekend performances Dereck now holds a 21-point margin atop the latest USMTS point standings.
