USMTS Park Jefferson event canceled
By USMTS PR (Jefferson, SD) -- Park Jefferson Speedway officials have cancelled Monday's USMTS event. Due to issues related to insurance, the track is unable to race while the township road south of the racetrack is open.
A request was made to Jefferson Township to temporarily close a small section of 700 feet of the road on race nights for four hours. Due to objections, the Township decided to leave the road open and has caused the track to cancel all racing in June.
The track has asked for only 700 feet to be closed and the remainder of the road to be open for neighboring farmers to have access to the road. The road closure would have no impact on access by farmers to their properties as the access is east of the requested closure. As the road is minimum maintenance, it came as a surprise that the Township felt a need to keep the road open.
"We are disappointed in this entire situation, but the safety of the Township needs to come first, which is why we requested the Township to close the road for a mere four hours on our race nights. Unfortunately, there was opposition to the closure. However, without insurance we cannot race, and they won't allow it without the temporary road closure," said track owner Adam Adamson.
