Three strikes: Park Jefferson third straight rain-out for USMTS
By USMTS PR (Jefferson, SD) -- The third night of a three-race swing for the USMTS ended with a third straight rain-out Sunday when officials at the Park Jefferson Speedway were forced to pull the plug on tonight's Cookies BBQ Summer Shootout.
Rained out Friday at the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa, and again Saturday at the Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minnesota, the series struck out for the weekend with today's dampened news.
The USMTS has staged just 18 nights of racing thus far in 2019 as the series heads into its annual summer vacation until action resumes in the third week of July.
In comparison, 30 shows were completed by this time last season, and in 2017 there were already 42 race nights in the books by June 18.
The good news is that there are still at least 29 nights remaining on the campaign for the 2019 Casey's General Stores USMTS National Championship powered by Summit.
The next event is slated for Wednesday, July 17, when the series returns to the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, for the 12th Annual USMTS Summer Classic presented by Keyser Manufacturing.
From there, the action shifts to the 9th Annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals presented by Swift Springs on Friday and Saturday, July 19-20, at the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with a $1,000-to-win feature on Friday followed by Saturday's finale which pays $8,000 to the winner.
The 'Silver Dollar' will carry even more weight as it is the final event of the season in both the MSD Performance USMTS Mid-American Series and Spike Hardcore Energy USMTS Northern Lights Series.
The season's fourth regional series-the Casey's General Stores Hunt for the USMTS National Championship-begins Thursday, August 1, at the 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan.
