USMTS at Nobles County cancelled due to bad weather

By USMTS PR (Worthington, MN) -- It sounds like a broken record, but Saturday's USMTS event at the Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minn., has been canceled due to saturated grounds and an impending forecast of strong thunderstorms tonight.

"With an 80 to 90 percent chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and throughout the night, it just makes sense to make this call early in the day so our long-distance traveling race teams and USMTS fans can avoid the drive and severe weather, and make alternate plans," said USMTS President Todd Staley.

At this time, the Park Jefferson Speedway near Jefferson, S.D., will host the tireless USMTS touring titans on Sunday, June 23, for the ninth time in series history, and while Mother Nature has been declared the winner three times in the past, no racer has been able to visit victory lane more than once.

Past winners include Jay Noteboom (2005), Kelly Shryock (2006), Jason Krohn (2007), Jason Hughes (2008), Jon Tesch (2009), Ryan Gustin (2010), Rodney Sanders (2016) and Lucas Schott (2018).

The Cookies BBQ Summer Shootout will also feature the Malvern Bank SLMR Late Models for a huge night of racing in the Siouxland. Zeitner & Sons and their large trucking operation based out of Omaha, Nebraska, are bringing race fans this exciting event in 2019.

Joining the two feature divisions are the Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts. For the kids, Rusty Wheels and Broken Ball Joint will be hosting a barking contest, and the five best barking kids will get to do the trophy presentations to the feature winners as well as receiving a trophy of their own.

Camping is allowed on Saturday and Sunday nights at Park Jefferson on the north side of the spectator parking area. The Hampton Inn of North Sioux City has a special Park Jefferson Speedway rate of $89 that can be made by calling (605) 232-9739.

The pit gate will open at 3:30 p.m. with the spectator gate opening at 4. Hot laps are slated for 5:15 and racing gets underway at 6. There is a limited number of online special tickets which can be purchased by clicking here.

The Park Jefferson Speedway is a semi-banked 4/10-mile dirt oval located just off I-29 at exit 4, then 0.2 mile east to SR 105, then 1.8 miles north (east side of SR 105). The physical address is 48426 332nd Street, North Sioux City, SD 57049. For more information, check out ParkJeff.com online.

All three shows will be part of the Casey's General Stores USMTS National Championship powered by Summit and drivers will earn points in the Spike Hardcore Energy USMTS Northern Lights Series.

Sanders currently leads both the national standings and regional standings coming into this weekend's trio of events. Ramirez is shadowing him in both point chases and Gustin has the most wins this season with four-including this past weekend where 'The Reaper' earned his second Masters victory in three seasons.
